They are red, bluish or purple veins that can result from sun exposure, hormone therapy, oral contraceptives, the aging process, or heredity. With a beam of light, the laser can deliver a prescribed dose of energy to the spider veins. The laser selectively coagulates the problem veins while sparing the surrounding areas. Afterwards the vessel naturally disappears. Typically, one to two treatments are required.

This heat breaks pigment into tiny particles, then it is naturally shed from the skin during the weeks after the treatment.
